Why this suddenly matters
USA
De-minimis is gone
The $800 duty-free exemption was suspended in Aug 2025 and is repealed by statute from July 2027. Every commercial parcel entering the US is now dutiable — and 2026's trade-remedy measures keep shifting.
EU
Duty on every parcel since 1 July 2026
The €150 exemption is being dismantled: a €3 flat duty now applies per item category on low-value parcels, with full tariff rates arriving by July 2028 — plus VAT from the first euro.
UK
The £135 relief is on the clock
The UK has announced the end of its £135 low-value duty relief (expected by Oct 2028). VAT is already due from the first pound.
Get the HS code wrong and you eat the difference: surprise duty bills, parcels stuck at the border, penalties for misclassification, and up to 30% of carts abandoned at surprise fees. Accurate classification is no longer optional — it's the difference between a margin and a loss.
